Food Bank of Northwest Indiana
The Food Bank of Northwest Indiana is a member of America's Second Harvest network and serves families in Lake and Porter Counties. Food is distributed to various charities throughout the counties.
Greeters
Ministering to our visitors and members through a smile, kind word, and offering "The Weekly" information folder is what greeting is all about. Greeters welcome all into our facility and help create an atmosphere of belonging.
Meals on Wheels
The Porter County Visiting Nurse's Association organizes the Meals on Wheels program for Porter County. Lunch and a light dinner are delivered to clients by volunteers.
Parking Crew
A volunteer team we would like to create is the Parking Crew. The parking crew volunteer team has fun providing umbrella escorts in inclement weather, spreading salt in the case of ice, and directing car traffic if needed before and after worship services. Volunteers also offer unloading assistance of boxes, bags, etc. into the building if needed.
Pastoral Care
Many people connected to Real Life find themselves under the care of a physician or hospital, and some are homebound or reside in a nursing facility. Pastoral Care volunteers show up and visit with them and pray with them to show them we care. Volunteers also care for others through a time of prayer, writing an encouraging note, or making a phone call.
Portage Food Pantry
The Portage Township Food Pantry serves more than 400 families every month, providing emergency assistance to families in crisis situations. The pantry would not operate without dedicated volunteers who register families, organize and distribute food, and provide a light meal once a week.
Prison Ministry
Volunteers have an opportunity to love people by offering a Sunday evening service for the inmates at Porter County Jail. The service consists worship, sharing testimonies, and prayer.
Ushers
Sunday worship is our opportunity to love God and love people. Ushers are active and visible volunteers who help create the environment for worship by assisting with seating, collecting tithes and offerings, maintaining a clean auditorium, and supporting our Arts Team during special events.
Welcome Center
Welcome Center volunteers and Connectors are available weekly before and after Sunday worship services. Connectors meet the needs of visitors by escorting them to the children's ministry area, or community center (former gym), while making them feel comfortable. Welcome Center volunteers are available to answer questions, give direction, and communicate with the pastoral team if needed.
