Extremism in Orissa, India
The Orissa State of India has been torn by anti-Christian violence for more than a decade. During the Christmas season of 2007, violence abounded. Extremist destroyed a brand-new Christian church on Dec. 26 and drove a national missionary pastor out of the village before burning down his family's home and all their belongings. Another national missionary was forced to flee from a second village on Christmas Eve. The extremist also threatened the church members, burning down one member's grocery store. A Gospel for Asia (GFA) correspondent reported about 1,000 homes have been burned and 12 believers killed in Orissa since Christmas.
